 Simple Slokas for Shiva

The simplest Shiva Mantra anyone can recite anytime is:

 

Om Shivaya Namah: (or) Om Nama Sivayah:

ஓம் சிவாய நம:  (or) ஓம் நமசிவாய:

Tamil:

வேயுறு தோளி பங்கன் விடமுண்ட கண்டன் மிக நல்ல வீணை தடவி
மாசறு திங்கள் கங்கை முடி மேல் அணிந்து என் உளமே புகுந்த அதனால்
ஞாயிறு திங்கள் செவ்வாய் புதன் வியாழன் வெள்ளி சனி பாம்பிரண்டும் உடனே
ஆசறு நல்லநல்ல அவை நல்லநல்ல அடியாரவர்க்கு மிகவே!

English:

Veyuru Tholi pangan, vidamunda kandan, miga nalla veenai thadavi,
masaru thingal gangai mudi mel aninthu en ulame puguntha adanaal
Jnayiru, thingal, chevvai, budan, vyazhan, velli, sani pambirandum udane
asaru nalla nalla avai nalla nalla adiyar avarku migave

Meaning:

One who shared half his body with Goddess Uma, who drank the alahala poison and became blue necked (neelakandan);
who plays the sweet music from veena; who carries the crescent moon and the ganga on his headlock;
one who fills my mind and heart;
the nine grahas (sun, moon, jupiter, mars, guru, venus, sani and ragu-kethu)  won't trouble the siva devotees and treat them well;

Tamil:

தொல்லை இரும் பிறவி சூழும் தளை நீக்கி
அல்லல் அறுத்து ஆனந்தம் ஆக்கியதே
எல்லை மறுவா நெறி அளிக்கும் வாதவூர் என் கோன்
திருவாசகம் என்னும் தேன்

English:

Thollai irum piravi soozhum thalai neeki
Allal aruthu anandam aakkiyadhe
Yellai maruvaa neri alikkum vaadhavoor en kon
Thiruvaasagam yennum thaen

Meaning: (this song was written in praise of Thiruvasagam)

The birth cycle that repeats forever; and the burden of being born;
remove (cut this suffering) the ignorance and free me from suffering and give me endless joy praying to you
O God of Vadhavur; you are the one to show me the righteous way and wisdom;
by way of reciting this Thiruvasagam.
